Earlier on 28 March the Uttarakhand High Court declared Ganga and Yamuna as a living entity, bestowing them with the same legal rights as a person. The decision code certainly help in giving pace to the efforts taken to clean the pollution-choked river.
The order makes the second river in the world after New Zealand's whanganui river to be granted as a living entity status.
The order passed by the Uttarakhand High Court give the huge boost the central governments project. The Namami Gange bringing up their various efforts cleaning and preserving the sacred river. A bench of Justice Rajeev Sharma and Justice Alok Singh allowed the director general of Namami Gange project, uttarakhand chief secretary an advocate general the right to represent the Ganga. It means now Ganga and Yamuna rivers will be treated like a natural person but only through a designated person.
Ganga being the third largest river in the world and the holiest hindu river is among the most dirtiest river in the world, with large quantity consisting of toxic industrial and untreated sewage along with where is from various ceremonies conducted across banks of the river. Earlier this month, the centre cleared projects worth rupees 1,900 crore for clean Ganga campaign in various States mainly uttarakhand.
Thus the court decision will help in cleaning the sacred Indian river.
